The Details

Escape the distractions of everyday life and run away with us to the Pacific Northwest to do what we do best: tell stories. Whether you’re drafting, revising, brainstorming or outlining, every aspect of The Residency has been designed with one thing in mind: getting the work done. With various workspaces, a completely open itinerary, and meal flexibility, you will be able to create your own schedule and structure your time the way you work best, with opportunities to collaborate when inspiration strikes. And when you start getting antsy and need to close the laptop, there’s ample wilderness to explore.

  • Things to Know

We are holding two weeks to hopefully accommodate everyone who wants to attend.

If you are interested in attending both weeks, you must purchase both deposits and will be billed separately for each trip.

If one of the weeks does not fill up enough to make financial sense then we will have to cancel it.

  • Things to Know

Rooms this year are being offered at a flat rate - this means each person pays the same price per accommodation, not per bed.

Due to the price increases during the high season, this was the best option to keep everything affordable.

We will not be assigning beds, that will left to the discretion of those attendees sharing each accommodation.

FAQ

Are there scholarships available for The Residency?

There will be no trip scholarships offered for this trip since this is the last Writing With the Soul Trip and we won't be able to facilitate anything additional after the new year.

Do I need to attend the entire trip?

Yes, please only register if you are able to attend the entire trip. Arriving late or leaving early will mean that you do not get the full experience of The Residency.

Can I come early or stay late?

Yes, you can travel early or stay later in Oregon, if you wish to do so. Any travel you do before or after the residency will be on your own budget.

Can I room with my friend?

Yes, you can make requests to room with a specific person. If you would like to room with someone specific, we recommend that you coordinate together before enrollment so that we can book you together. Please make sure when enrolling that you all choose the same room type option. Also, please keep in mind that even if you are not paired with your desired roommate, you will be among kindred spirits & will have plenty of interaction time with those not staying in your room.

What do I need to bring with me?

Anything you need to work, plenty of comfy clothes, and a pair of shoes you can wear on a light hike. A detailed packing list will be sent to all attendees six weeks before the trip.

How do I get there?

The closest airports are Redmond Municipal Airport (45 minutes from Suttle Lodge) and Bend Municipal Airport (50 minutes from Suttle Lodge). You can also fly into Portland International Airport. (2.5 hours from Suttle Lodge) Transportation from the airport to Suttle Lodge is not provided. We recommend acquiring a rental car or arranging to carpool with other attendees. There is plenty of parking on property for those bringing/renting a vehicle.

Can I roadtrip?

Yes! Suttle Lodge has plenty of parking for those who plan to drive their own cars to Sisters and each cabin has designated parking.

Is there an age requirement to participate?

You must be at least 18 years old to participate.
